The original plan was to put pickets along the front porch but then decided to go with a solid sheet of plywood and cut out a design. So Lance drew it and cut out the front panel design with a jigsaw. Took him about 6 hours to cut the entire scene out. We attached the scene to the front and I started to prime the house. I used Zinner Oil based primer over the entire house. I went with an oil based since it would be outside and I wanted it to be protected as much as possible. However, Eve and I went out there one night after work and I let her paint with the primer...she had oil based paint ALL OVER HER...head to toe. At one point I saw her stick her hand in the can of paint. Oh my! But she had a great time! I scrubbed her down afterwards with some mineral spirits and got most of it off but she still had it on parts of her arms and legs and some specs in her hair for at least a week. :) I wish I would have taken a picture!<br />
<br />

<br />
To view my previous playhouse posts visit <a href="http://diywithivy.blogspot.com/2011/07/playhouse-construction-day-1-2.html"><span style="color: blue;">Day 1 & 2</span></a> and <a href="http://diywithivy.blogspot.com/2011/07/playhouse-construction-day-3-day-7.html"><span style="background-color: white; color: blue;">Days 3 - 7</span></a><br />
<br />
My parents came back about 6 weeks after day 3 of construction. The plan was to get the windows in, the slide on and some of the trim work...which we accomplished all of that and more. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQYX7X7sauvmLBXiEsxi8SzCk68n4igNn-E3CZXHNE35jy1s5hg56_wv0pwVPN7GgQPZ721MEMqI9_qrw5Dl2Ieb4e9ZjTrbxytDVPo6A7CQoyosZzuRXlwK_pPMzUwq9gQJw-YzKY7GEs/s1600/Picture+251.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQYX7X7sauvmLBXiEsxi8SzCk68n4igNn-E3CZXHNE35jy1s5hg56_wv0pwVPN7GgQPZ721MEMqI9_qrw5Dl2Ieb4e9ZjTrbxytDVPo6A7CQoyosZzuRXlwK_pPMzUwq9gQJw-YzKY7GEs/s400/Picture+251.jpg" t$="true" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The stairs were challenging. My Dad wasn't exactly sure how we were going to do do them. Our original design had the stairs coming down off the front porch and turning towards the side. But then we thought it could be a safety issue to have an opening along the front face of the porch. So we put them off to the side. The stairs had to be wide enough and deep enough but not too deep for little feet to run up and down them. So as my Daddy says...what starts out as a mistake, actually turns into something really cool and people think you <u>meant</u> to do it like that. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Yes, I know...these stairs look really funny at the moment. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Reminds me of an escalator or something.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNvICPQsk6jwmqLYV73Csukt_ISCEapJSu6_QCmkD2ZLHAJ-Hs7lTjK1M9BLCARxp2gmZrbTyjV-OW7DB1dktXeSExJzezs8jI51Uidsa8g0vuHXmQfF49ssjjVpV-1IGVZ8PTLi0jQ630/s1600/Picture+256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNvICPQsk6jwmqLYV73Csukt_ISCEapJSu6_QCmkD2ZLHAJ-Hs7lTjK1M9BLCARxp2gmZrbTyjV-OW7DB1dktXeSExJzezs8jI51Uidsa8g0vuHXmQfF49ssjjVpV-1IGVZ8PTLi0jQ630/s400/Picture+256.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We had Eve test out the stairs to be sure they were going to work.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT3YV630cnbgjocG7bxn5-NgweUxZSz517nycB4P6I3Nz0-nTChuI4rxv_7b7oLEFfBG7orkwGghl89nlOicY1cVt_zWyc35T1uzVtxD0ELePDPFNiQmJihl6WTq-JTBBWUjmdaXDzladT/s1600/Picture+257.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT3YV630cnbgjocG7bxn5-NgweUxZSz517nycB4P6I3Nz0-nTChuI4rxv_7b7oLEFfBG7orkwGghl89nlOicY1cVt_zWyc35T1uzVtxD0ELePDPFNiQmJihl6WTq-JTBBWUjmdaXDzladT/s400/Picture+257.jpg" t$="true" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"> This picture makes me laugh...she is such a ham. She loves showing off her new house.</div><div style="text-align: center;">As you can see, the windows are all in.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg36UCGoFYk4R1lVN6Jiqs1s8TFlDdHGLYrP1UoZMUVw_xUfKbHWI5U9cMZWlTZE2g0LnEKs7o4Sj2W2YokgmM3h0lhmVlsUBsNvFv_oYnZwvHpShz8zb8IkqfWqETaiM0IBcSOgJdkgWZ/s1600/Picture+261.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg36UCGoFYk4R1lVN6Jiqs1s8TFlDdHGLYrP1UoZMUVw_xUfKbHWI5U9cMZWlTZE2g0LnEKs7o4Sj2W2YokgmM3h0lhmVlsUBsNvFv_oYnZwvHpShz8zb8IkqfWqETaiM0IBcSOgJdkgWZ/s400/Picture+261.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So we drew a design on for the stairs and my Dad cut it out. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglkiIRrnYL_hih8AY1l44sUSYshfiXoRyo3yWx2h3Q0U8rq0-YAoajFUG__lwdAJtNyckK32RBQqjfCzKnQzoguruh8FL1EV9Wgwp_fzfi-slkUU7I250rCDLxZeZGjxKXvHZw4yBG5vmi/s1600/Picture+266.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglkiIRrnYL_hih8AY1l44sUSYshfiXoRyo3yWx2h3Q0U8rq0-YAoajFUG__lwdAJtNyckK32RBQqjfCzKnQzoguruh8FL1EV9Wgwp_fzfi-slkUU7I250rCDLxZeZGjxKXvHZw4yBG5vmi/s320/Picture+266.jpg" t$="true" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Pretty cool, huh!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXCqhn9JxHxZz7yQF0YGYRtXk1_tF8esNLzjr7UJLTOkMpgWa-yDPK4L_-oNggVihvDbGOHmnkWkuGqfTTERmQS9zaGDsdHHa0M4CtwW5-SxSC45G_WLFmgshLWDCn0WiQ6Z0jA7kT4Jdn/s1600/Picture+269.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXCqhn9JxHxZz7yQF0YGYRtXk1_tF8esNLzjr7UJLTOkMpgWa-yDPK4L_-oNggVihvDbGOHmnkWkuGqfTTERmQS9zaGDsdHHa0M4CtwW5-SxSC45G_WLFmgshLWDCn0WiQ6Z0jA7kT4Jdn/s320/Picture+269.jpg" t$="true" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So to me...it looks like waves, but Lance's thought was to make it look like flames...</div><div style="text-align: center;">what do you see?</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB639TEPHwT0k5RvHe-DQwN76-igZSjdbQGutFA6uMGyLXOsdA6wvXAV55FBxbJECopKoi_WDK8G6jVTJ3pNzwrjNohhYOBm0IcHzfzhjGNXsRjTxjkEXsqDmnCZjE2q0QyaqTPZy_mM2-/s1600/Picture+272.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB639TEPHwT0k5RvHe-DQwN76-igZSjdbQGutFA6uMGyLXOsdA6wvXAV55FBxbJECopKoi_WDK8G6jVTJ3pNzwrjNohhYOBm0IcHzfzhjGNXsRjTxjkEXsqDmnCZjE2q0QyaqTPZy_mM2-/s320/Picture+272.jpg" t$="true" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">None the less, we really liked the wavy look. Our original plan was to put sliding on this playhouse. I had hauled some from down the street in my neighborhood from a house that was replacing theirs. It was not in too bad of shape...not for a playhouse anyway so I drug that awful stuff down the road and it was stored in our garage for almost a year. But as I mentioned, we really liked the wavy look, so we decided to trash the sliding and just use the particle board that was on the house and cut the trim to also be wavy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You can see the wavy trim design below around the door and sides of the house.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV-OZza6XQ_1mcYl96zNCkRlc3Avbdu_s8cPLH95T9kF90v1J3jyV0XLwXYc5OqA8pgIliftPTlJvb7Q1t6HzR3gCmHtjplqoSPNVxVvS3KW4Fio2G3wvloUB6-qqseihXgisiXuEI0c9V/s1600/Picture+280.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV-OZza6XQ_1mcYl96zNCkRlc3Avbdu_s8cPLH95T9kF90v1J3jyV0XLwXYc5OqA8pgIliftPTlJvb7Q1t6HzR3gCmHtjplqoSPNVxVvS3KW4Fio2G3wvloUB6-qqseihXgisiXuEI0c9V/s400/Picture+280.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div>Again, our original design plan kept changing as this house evolves but our thought was to make the front porch have pickets just like a regular porch does. My Dad had even cut all the pickets to size and brought them to us. But then he suggested perhaps using plywood to cut a design into and make that be the porch railings. So that is what the big sheet of plywood is up for. <br />
<br />

<br />
To see the Playhouse from the very beginning, please visit <a href="http://diywithivy.blogspot.com/2011/07/playhouse-construction-day-1-2.html"><span style="color: blue;">Playhouse Construction - Day 1 & 2</span></a><br />
<br />
The playhouse stayed looking like the picture below for the rest of the summer through the winter months. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqfRugzj8ZAugRyEWHlHyfnJfZMlvkwAVQg5WcQFEGrJ8KCs1s9yzUBh3ROy5-8sW6hv6J50Bp_u9XUi7MUC2DLwi-BfhQDuETP0UqTcGp7l1yiNYegot2-8Ms94I0ZXuKB5lHjelbr0k7/s1600/40023_1567319381294_1184712701_31667558_1810987_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqfRugzj8ZAugRyEWHlHyfnJfZMlvkwAVQg5WcQFEGrJ8KCs1s9yzUBh3ROy5-8sW6hv6J50Bp_u9XUi7MUC2DLwi-BfhQDuETP0UqTcGp7l1yiNYegot2-8Ms94I0ZXuKB5lHjelbr0k7/s400/40023_1567319381294_1184712701_31667558_1810987_n.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div><br />
But then in April 2011, construction started back and with Eve turning 3 in a couple months she was old enough to really start to enjoy and understand this new project.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Day 3 of construction was to get the rafters built and the roof on the house.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2tCc2XKy5nf92wBMX-ZCVm2KbBNXVXH6kUi7aFpfbdx7giLZx-3XCGi1obCnBurpjnPnDzRuXh4in0zRciSVCKRJV7MWiAS4IwhHAxbx3jU5GoZlaHxvK1VCgeGJ8YzJ_d9p6rgf-2eIP/s1600/207470_1992592452855_1184712701_32465932_6252633_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2tCc2XKy5nf92wBMX-ZCVm2KbBNXVXH6kUi7aFpfbdx7giLZx-3XCGi1obCnBurpjnPnDzRuXh4in0zRciSVCKRJV7MWiAS4IwhHAxbx3jU5GoZlaHxvK1VCgeGJ8YzJ_d9p6rgf-2eIP/s400/207470_1992592452855_1184712701_32465932_6252633_n.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And here is the little princess herself. <br />
She started calling it her castle and that Papa was building her a pink castle. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDmymhvmRO-Pi_e1EpBv6j90dfPBup1Khbe2T9wcfn5G8CFoA4n-2X4CUtwvxYnr-7ErgpBQz-Pqa26o5TCl9vrhBNiIH5haxThuIPbJ7Bl0cfk84n0U3O4cDgNnEVSkECt1re6Z-phh4n/s1600/208202_1992594732912_1184712701_32465940_8139858_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDmymhvmRO-Pi_e1EpBv6j90dfPBup1Khbe2T9wcfn5G8CFoA4n-2X4CUtwvxYnr-7ErgpBQz-Pqa26o5TCl9vrhBNiIH5haxThuIPbJ7Bl0cfk84n0U3O4cDgNnEVSkECt1re6Z-phh4n/s400/208202_1992594732912_1184712701_32465940_8139858_n.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In between Day 3 & Day 8 when my parents came back, our job was to in close the house and get the shingles on the roof. The picture below is the backside of the house with most of the boards attached. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We recruited some friends to help us finish the side boards and shingles. Our friend had a bunch of shingles that had never been used, so we got to use them and he actually put them all on for us. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5-6wKlSPP-TwOuMuMFs9QahcNqHtwO5iwTl119HvDvu_ylnVCFT7WHddsSk_zelirelvFayv1iOD64irk1LPKrqNWIqJb_o0BYvSGnwsI_ebhSH5iJOmIdCSA7G0BauMgsZYgBy0aE5SC/s1600/Picture+155.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5-6wKlSPP-TwOuMuMFs9QahcNqHtwO5iwTl119HvDvu_ylnVCFT7WHddsSk_zelirelvFayv1iOD64irk1LPKrqNWIqJb_o0BYvSGnwsI_ebhSH5iJOmIdCSA7G0BauMgsZYgBy0aE5SC/s400/Picture+155.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div><br />

When I was a little girl my Daddy built my sister and I a small playhouse which he then turned into his first wood shop but then we moved and in the next house I had an open tree house of sorts. I can remember talking about building a playhouse for Eve when she was less than a year old. At first we thought we would construct it in the garage and then just move it when our house sold. But of course she was still too young to actually play in it yet. So when our house sold in February 2010 Eve was about 20 months old and the house we bought already had a platform in the back yard that we were told once was some sort of playhouse or fort for the kids who lived there many years ago. So we decided to use that as our base and build upon that. We started construction in August 2010.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">BEFORE - this is the platform that was already there</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJYNyqKvzXWul7Wx3RSmFkfbaISwh_rmCAowofFCGK3s9MCvWQ842BE64eSrf2vEFYQe7SdptL33B7Hs66KVSekmR-0mccY4bRuP0G91uN4l8h5acuDHKdbro4gsFoXzz0GXowHS4L_cZ8/s1600/40957_1567156537223_1184712701_31667277_6079145_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJYNyqKvzXWul7Wx3RSmFkfbaISwh_rmCAowofFCGK3s9MCvWQ842BE64eSrf2vEFYQe7SdptL33B7Hs66KVSekmR-0mccY4bRuP0G91uN4l8h5acuDHKdbro4gsFoXzz0GXowHS4L_cZ8/s400/40957_1567156537223_1184712701_31667277_6079145_n.jpg" t$="true" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

We have 7 doors in our house...but this one is the door on the side of our house in between the garage doors. The trim on our house is a beige color...not my color of choice but it is what it is for now. The garage doors and side door were all painted the same color. However we rarely ever use this door...you do see it as soon as your pull down our driveway. It's just so very blah.<br />
<br />
Here are some <strong><u>BEFORE</u></strong> pictures:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAbisV_-NDNAQmgNiMRK-1uD0SXxjotJKtG0sDQ02JRX2_5KUbLl8IdFO2dnDkEh6d8Txv01mGXrCc3_068fweBJrzrszckww70YKD3WojJneDx0EhkNTIuLCWhg709LZi3QIZRxXcH1Kr/s1600/IMG_4635.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400px" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAbisV_-NDNAQmgNiMRK-1uD0SXxjotJKtG0sDQ02JRX2_5KUbLl8IdFO2dnDkEh6d8Txv01mGXrCc3_068fweBJrzrszckww70YKD3WojJneDx0EhkNTIuLCWhg709LZi3QIZRxXcH1Kr/s400/IMG_4635.jpg" width="300px" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgakGNFDfRb3P45NGAh5dTwz8jXzN7DwzmM8Ui0Tqh5zhoVOMahI7vgiPwG_K-_jaVr9BFEfxFBu5aQ5vi4CWIq1MOFmixbCrenQ_Buwyt2vDWaA5D_rvLr9wGHsT0WrCuCqpPZxf-r0TEA/s1600/IMG_4636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300px" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgakGNFDfRb3P45NGAh5dTwz8jXzN7DwzmM8Ui0Tqh5zhoVOMahI7vgiPwG_K-_jaVr9BFEfxFBu5aQ5vi4CWIq1MOFmixbCrenQ_Buwyt2vDWaA5D_rvLr9wGHsT0WrCuCqpPZxf-r0TEA/s400/IMG_4636.jpg" width="400px" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I painted our front door RED soon after we moved in. We have always loved red doors. And with the left over paint, I also painted the <a href="http://diywithivy.blogspot.com/search/label/Headboard%20Bench">Headboard Bench</a>. I still had over 1/2 a gallon of paint left so I used the same red to paint this side door. Then added a decal with the house numbers which also matches our <a href="http://diywithivy.blogspot.com/2011/03/mailbox-makeover.html">Mailbox</a>. (etsy is awesome by the way) I picked up this old kid rocking chair for $5 at a thift store and made it into a small planter similiar to my <a href="http://diywithivy.blogspot.com/2010/12/chair-planter.html">Chair Planter</a> on my front porch. And now...it's done! Ahhh...makes me smile now everytime I get home. :) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

We noticed that almost every mailbox on our street had some sort of flower bed around it but ours. Ours was just stuck in the dirt and looked very old. I wasn't sure what to do with it. I had originally thought I would sand and paint the post (to save $) and just get a new box.<br />
<br />
So Saturday morning I went outside to inspect it a little closer and while doing so I realized it was really shaky. I pushed just a little on the side of it and the darn thing just fell over! So much for trying to save the post! But come to find out once it broke it was all rotten and yucky inside. My neighbor saw me working and came out and told me that the mailbox was the original to the house...so yeah...it was old. <br />
<br />
So a quick trip to Lowes and we got a new post and box. Wasn't expensive either. We spent $21 on the post and $14 on the box. Picked up some mulch and a couple plants and back home to start. <br />
<br />
I wanted to get a better before picture but as I mention...it fell over before I could. So I took one with it laying by our curb with other junk we threw out. <br />
<br />
Here is the BEFORE, IN PROGRESS, and AFTER. It looks SO much better! As my friend told me...it shows classy people live here now. :) <br />

I am starting to get out my Easter decorations and decided a fun project for me and Eve would be to make an Easter Village. I picked up some $1 birdhouses from AC Moore and a few Easter decorations from Hobby Lobby and the rest was just scraps I already had. I painted the houses and added scrapbook paper with Mod Podge. The bases are just small boxes and small wooden scraps. Found a thin sheet of wood and assembled it all together. <br />
<br />
And most importantly...Eve loves the new Easter Village. :)<br />

I didn't get a sample before I bought my gallon and got it home and really didn't like it. BUT I paid for it so I figured I must use it. So I did...and I've never been happy with it. I knew I wanted to do something else but wasn't sure what. Until I saw <a href="http://myrepurposedlife.blogspot.com/2011/01/board-and-batten-back-splash.html">Gail's</a> post on her Board and Batten back splash in her kitchen. I loved it and knew that's what I wanted to do. My Dad is the most talented guy I know and while visiting I told him my plans. He had a stash of 1x4's that he wasn't using and gave them to me! And for my birthday I got a Lowes gift card so that paid for my paint. So this project literally didn't cost me a dime!!<br />

Here are my bathroom <strong><u><span style="color: blue;">BEFORE</span></u></strong> pictures:<br />

My favorite was <a href="http://itsthelittlethingsthatmakeahouseahome.blogspot.com/2009/09/hello-storage.html">Karla's</a> which is AWESOME. But she has a handy dandy husband...me...I have a handy dandy daddy but he lives almost 3 hours away. While looking at other DIY Lockers I decided to try and find something I could "repurpose" to make my lockers. Save some money and recycle! While at my local Habitat Restore I walked over to the closet doors and studied them for a bit and thought...that could be my sides. So I found 2 sets of doors that looked pretty good and brought them home for $15. I had this project on my to do list for several months but didn't have all the tools I needed to really make it.<br />
Thankfully for Christmas I got lots of tools! So now I had what I needed to get started.<br />
<br />
The only thing I had to purchase "new" for this project was the bead board, hooks and baskets. My good friend is building a house and had some scrap boards laying around so I went and grabbed them up. That was my backer to attach the bead board to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnILvfiNtY5tudkjEgPteMX45qfJA7tF4Rpg9QWTbrcgch6-4Cr2KM4IG7l1R8Xx5FHnI-ZmgyJ-lDeUx5Xe5Hbshic_Fd99_qTtfmqIJGlnt4Q_YWTNi7fX9JZoAAJhLdeidUEpzFwv6i/s320/IMG_4518.JPG" width="240" /></div><br />
<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I found the baskets at Target and the initials at Michaels. The letters were white and used black spray paint on them and tied them on. A basket for each of us.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I actually do not have a "mudroom" I built these to go right beside the door in the basement which leads out to our garage. I had bought several things to turn into projects and thought...why not give them as gifts. I actually did not photo all of my gifts I made...I forgot. :( <br />

She got an American Girl catalog a couple weeks ago and in there is a pictures of a kitchen table and food accessories for the Americal Girl dolls. She saw it and called it a kitchen and asked if I could make her one. (She's been watching me make larger play kitchens). I thought...of course...a DIY Doll Kitchen. I looked online and saw the Our Generation girls from Target have a kitchen but other than that...small kitchens that are not Barbie size are hard to find. So I was on the hunt for a piece of furniture I could repurpose to a doll kitchen. I went to my favorite consignment shop...The Gingham Daisy and it wasn't long before I spotted this find! I love the mission style look.<br />

It would fit her American Girl doll great! I got my Dad to cut off the bottom of the shelf and drilled a hole for the sink. I picked up a small dog bowl for the sink. This project is still a work in progress but hope to be done soon. I added small marble type pieces I've had for years and glued them to the backsplash. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Eve was only 20 months at the time and was still in her crib. I did not plan on moving her into a big girl bed at such a young age but as soon as we moved she started to climb/fall out of her crib in the middle of the night. So we decided to try out the big girl bed (which was mine that my Dad made me when I was 7 or so). Turns out she loved it and slept so good. So I got her some new bedding and found this <a href="http://www.target.com/Circo-Love-Nature-Bedding-Collection/dp/B0025V83RO">Circo Love and Nature theme</a> at Target and thought it was perfect for a little girl's room. The theme was trees, owl, mushrooms etc so I knew I wanted to put a tree on her wall. My husband is somewhat of an artist himself so he drew the tree and I painted it. The flowers and animals are wall decals that was part Love and Nature theme.<br />

I got this chair for $5 at my favorite consignment shop...The Gingham Daisy. I cut the seat out and primed it, then spray painted it a shade of blue-ish/purple. Then went back over it lightly with some sand paper to give it a worn look then sprayed some clear coat over the entire chair. I added a coconut liner to the seat, added my plant and put it right by the front door! <br />

Gail at <a href="http://myrepurposedlife.blogspot.com/search/label/bench">My Repurposed Life</a> has some great ones! My husband called me on his way home from work one day to let me know there was a big pile of stuff out by someone's crub up the road. As soon as he got home I jumped in my car and headed up there. I was so excited when I got out to find that under that pile of junk was an old headboard/footboard. FINALLY! I had been looking for cheap ones at consignment shops but all were too expensive and this one was FREE! With the head and footboard was the sideboards. I wasn't sure if I would need them but I grabbed them up anyway. Turns out I did use them. We cut them into planks and turned it into the seat. <br />

As soon as I heard about it I knew this had my name all over it. I LOVE making things for Eve (my 2 year old). She already has a wooden kitchen we bought her for her 1st birthday but we are building a playhouse outside and so I thought a handmade DIY play kitchen would be perfect for that. <br />
<br />
I found this old nightstand at a flea market for about $12. <br />

Took the bottom drawer out and cut the top drawer in half. These 2 pieces would make a great microwave and oven door. Cut a hole in the top for the sink (dog bowl). Cut 4 small circles of wood for the stove burners. Used the knobs from the drawer for the stove knobs and 2 others I just had on hand. The fabric for the skirt was leftover fabric I used in my real kitchen. I found the faucet from the Habitat Restore for $4 and the board that is behind the sink. Attached a small rod from IKEA to hang the pots on and it's a wrap. A new kitchen for my niece and nephew for Christmas. (Eve's is coming...had to experiment with my 1st one) :) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
